Raw Material Inspection and Preparation

First, uncoil the zig zag wire from its storage spool slowly, and lay it out on a flat, clean work surface to check for visible defects. Run your gloved hand along the full length of the wire to feel for deep kinks, rust spots, uneven cross-sections, or welded joints that might cause jams later in the straightening process.

Material Alignment for Feeding

Arrange the inspected wire segments in a neat, ordered stack near the equipment’s feeding inlet, making sure no overlapping loops can get tangled during the initial pull. Mark the two ends of each wire bundle with temporary, non-damaging labels to note the incoming material batch number, so you can trace any processing issues back to the original stock later.

Pre-Equipment Setup and Parameter Calibration

Double check that all rotating rollers, guide grooves, and cutting blade mounts on the machine are free of residual metal shavings from previous runs, and wipe every contact surface with a lint-free cloth to remove dust and oil buildup. Adjust the gap between the straightening rollers according to the nominal diameter of the zig zag wire, making small incremental tweaks until the wire can pass through the roller set without being scratched or squeezed out of its intended path.

Test Run with Short Sample

Feed a 300mm long scrap segment of the same wire through the full preprocessing path first, to watch how it moves through the guides and confirm no unexpected bending or binding occurs. If the test sample shows slight twisting after passing the rollers, make minor adjustments to the alignment of the last two guide blocks, and run a second test until the sample exits with no unintended deformation.

Tension Stabilization and Pre-Feeding Check

Connect the leading end of the wire to the feeding mechanism gently, and apply consistent, low tension to pull the wire taut through the entire straightening section, so there are no loose loops left between the spool and the cutting station. Stand at a safe distance to observe the wire’s movement for 2 to 3 full slow cycles, confirming that the tension stays even across every segment and no part of the wire jumps out of the guide grooves.

Pre-Cut Reference Mark Calibration

Use a fine-tip marker to draw a temporary reference line on the wire 50mm before the cutting blade’s position, then trigger a single low-speed trial cut to check if the mark lines up exactly with the blade edge. Adjust the position sensor offset little by little until the trial cut lands perfectly on the reference line, to make sure every subsequent cut will hit the required length tolerance before full preprocessing starts.
